No child's life should be torn apart by war
War Child UK was founded in 1993 by filmmakers David Wilson and Bill Leeson. On assignment in the former-Yugoslavia they were horrified by the violence and ethnic cleansing they witnessed. And especially its impact on children. We work with children affected by war in 9 countries and are aiming to reach 260,000 children by 2019. We help keep them safe, give them an education, and equip them with skills for the future.
There are five principles that underpin everything we do: (1) We reach children early in the conflict cycle and we stay to support them through recovery; (2) we are a specialist organisation focused on high-impact and sustainable interventions; (3) we champion the voices of children and mobilise others to take action to support them; (4) our values define our actions and drive us to continually improve our work and our systems; (5) we are part of an effective global family.
Our '#StopArmingSaudi' t-shirt by Vivienne Westwood is part of our #StopArmingSaudi campaign, where we're demanding the UK Government to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia, while Yemeni children suffer as a result of Saudi-led coalition bombings. The 'East or West, Home is Best' and 'we want peace in our country' designs are inspired by children's drawings from our child protection and education projects.
